10月20日中午，新西兰北帕默斯顿市市长格兰特·史密斯先生来到西安文理学院。北帕默斯顿学院2026级新生代表刘姝涵同学在明德楼D104会议室，用英语向市长和在场师生分享“我眼中的北帕默斯顿”。“My name is Liu Shuhan, you can call me Dora.”她是数据科学与大数据技术专业大一新生，还没去过北帕，却早已把它装进梦想。

On the noon of 20 October, Mr Grant Smith, Mayor of Palmerston North, New Zealand, visited Xi'an University. Dora, a freshman representative of the Palmerston North Institute, shared "Palmerston North in My Eyes" with the Mayor and the audience in English in the meeting room (Room D104) of the Mingde Building. "My name is Liu Shuhan, you can call me Dora." She is a first-year student majoring in Data Science and Big Data Technology — she has never been to Palmerston North, yet already carries it in her dreams.

刘姝涵同学这样介绍北帕：“它坐落在新西兰北岛南部，属于马纳瓦图-旺加努伊大区。为了弄清这座城市的样子，我上网搜索了它最具代表性的名片，答案是The Square中心广场。It is the heart of Palmerston North，它宏伟的样子一眼就深深打动了我。”

Dora introduced the city this way: "Palmerston North sits in the Lower North Island, which belongs to Manawatū-Whanganui. When I first tried to figure out what the city is like, I searched on the website for the most representative thing about the city, and it showed me The Square, the central hub of this city. It is the heart of Palmerston North. Its magnificent appearance profoundly struck me at first sight."

作为北帕默斯顿学院的新生，刘姝涵同学最关注的还是学术。梅西大学拥有3100多名科学家与研究人员，实力全球瞩目；UCOL与梅西在IT、护理等领域优势互补。“Palmerston North is a student city, full of young energy”——在她眼中，那是一座属于学生的城市，满眼都是年轻的能量，正如他们正要开启的大学时光。

As a freshman of the Palmerston North Institute, Dora's greatest interest naturally lies in academics. Massey University, with more than 3,100 scientists and researchers, enjoys worldwide distinction, while UCOL and Massey complement each other in fields such as IT and nursing. "Palmerston North is a student city, full of young energy." In Dora's eyes, it is a city made for students — brimming with youthful energy, just like the university life they are about to begin.

最打动刘姝涵同学的，是北帕的樱花。一位中国留学生在社交平台分享的樱花照片，成了她在异乡最治愈的风景。西安的樱花也在每年四月如约而至，人们涌进公园赏花踏春；“Sakura is also regarded as a symbol of openness and inclusiveness of Xi'an city”——樱花，也是西安开放包容的象征。分享的最后，她向市长发出邀约：欢迎明年樱花季再来西安，让两座城市的友谊在樱花树下继续生长。

What touched Dora most was the cherry blossoms of Palmerston North. A cherry blossom photo shared on social media by a Chinese student abroad had become her most comforting view in a foreign land. In Xi'an, cherry blossoms arrive as promised every April, drawing crowds to parks and gardens for the spring bloom. "Sakura is also regarded as a symbol of openness and inclusiveness of Xi'an city." Cherry blossoms, too, are a symbol of Xi'an's openness and inclusiveness. At the end of her sharing, Dora extended an invitation to the Mayor: welcome back to Xi'an in the cherry blossom season next year, so that the friendship between our two cities can keep growing under the sakura trees.

“It has become a place where I dreamed of living”——虽然她对北帕的了解还来自网络，但它已经成了她梦想生活的地方，她希望未来有机会到UCOL继续深造。分享结束后，刘姝涵同学与市长交流互动。流利的英语、自信的表达，让市长和在场的嘉宾印象深刻、连连称赞。以樱花为桥，刘姝涵同学与北帕的故事，才刚刚开始。

"It has become a place where I dreamed of living." Although her knowledge of Palmerston North still comes from the internet, it has already become a place she dreams of living in — and she hopes to pursue further studies at UCOL in the future. After the sharing, Dora talked with the Mayor. The Mayor and the guests present were deeply impressed by her fluent English and confident presentation, and spoke highly of her. With cherry blossoms as a bridge, Dora's story with Palmerston North has only just begun.
